Current research delves into understanding material properties at the nanoscale with photo-coupled microscopy in ultrastable environments. Point defects in single layer transition metal dichalcogenides (SL-TMDs) can be used to advantage in spin valley splitting, tunable band gap engineering, and target sites for quantum emission. Multi-modal scanning probe microscopy is well-adept at parsing atomic level information with high fidelity.
